Straight Seam Welded Pipe Production Process

 

Steel plate testing: Before processing steel plates, all steel plates need to be ultrasonic tested to check the quality of welded pipes from the source and prevent unqualified steel plates from entering the production line.


Blanking: Mill the edges on both sides of the steel plate through an edge milling machine. Achieve the required groove shape, steel plate width and plate edge parallelism as required.


Pre-bending: In order to make the steel plate meet the curvature requirements, a pre-bending machine will be used to pre-bend the edge of the plate, or a press will be used to pre-bend it.


Forming: The first half of the pre-bent steel plate is stamped multiple times and pressed into a "J" shape on the JCO forming machine. Then, the other half of the steel plate is also bent and pressed into a "C" shape, and finally an open "O" shape.


Pre-welding: The formed straight seam welded steel pipe joints are continuously welded by gas shielded welding (MAG).


Internal welding: Longitudinal multi-wire submerged arc welding (up to four wires) is used to weld the inside of the straight seam steel pipe.


External welding: Longitudinal multi-wire submerged arc welding is used to weld the outside of the longitudinal submerged arc welded steel pipe.


The first ultrasonic inspection: Inspect the internal and external welds of the straight seam welded steel pipe and the base metal on both sides of the weld.


The first X-ray inspection: X-ray industrial television inspection of internal and external welds, using an image processing system to ensure the sensitivity of flaw detection.


Diameter expansion: The entire length of the submerged arc welded straight seam steel pipe is expanded to improve the dimensional accuracy of the steel pipe and improve the distribution of stress within the steel pipe.


Hydraulic pressure test: The expanded steel pipes are inspected one by one on a hydraulic pressure testing machine to ensure that the steel pipes meet the test pressure required by the standard. The machine has automatic recording and storage functions.


Chamfering: Process the pipe end of the steel pipe that has passed the inspection to achieve the required pipe end bevel size.


Second ultrasonic inspection: Conduct ultrasonic inspection one by one again to check for defects that may occur after diameter expansion and hydraulic pressure of the straight seam welded steel pipes.


The second X-ray inspection: Conduct X-ray industrial television inspection and pipe end weld photography on the steel pipe after diameter expansion and hydraulic pressure test.


Pipe End Magnetic Particle Inspection: This inspection is performed to detect pipe end defects.

 

Welding Precautions for Straight Seam Welded Pipes

 
 

Check whether the specifications of welding wire and flux are correct according to the welding process regulations to prevent welding accidents caused by incorrect use of welding wire and flux.

 
 

Supervise the welding environment. When the welding environment is not good (temperature below 0°C, relative humidity above 90%), corresponding measures should be taken before welding.

 
 

Before pre-welding, check the groove dimensions, including gaps, blunt edges, angles, and staggered edges, to see if they meet the process requirements.

 
 

Whether the process parameters such as welding current, welding voltage, and welding speed selected during the submerged arc automatic internal and external welding process are correct.

 
 

Supervise welding personnel to make full use of the length of the arc ignition plate at the end of the steel pipe during automatic submerged arc internal and external welding, and enhance the efficiency of the arc ignition plate during internal and external welding, which will help improve pipe end welding.

 
 

Supervise the welding personnel to see whether the slag has been cleaned first, whether the joints have been processed, and whether there are oil, rust, slag, water, paint, and other contaminants at the groove during repair welding.
